    The Washington National Cathedral

    The plans for this "church for national purposes" were conceived of more than a century before the foundation was laid. In 1964 the central tower was finished, but it was not until 1990 that the cathedral as a whole was complete. A variety of tours of the Washington National Cathedral and the grounds are offered frequently.
